Luxy Hair Extension Review (160g #18 Dirty Blonde)

This post is all about my experience buying and using LuxyHair.com hair extensions. I ordered my extensions (160g #18 Dirty Blonde) on a Tuesday and recieved them on a Saturday. I was actually surprised that they came that quickly!

Why Luxy? I chose Luxy because they ship out of the US. I didn't want to pay for international shipping, nor did I want to wait for them if they got stuck in customs. I was considering FoxyLocks, but I wanted them ASAP! Also, they are pretty popular on YouTube and I wanted to try them out for myself.

Why clip-ins? I've never had extensions before nor do I have the money to pay a hair stylist to put in extensions. It can be hundreds of dollars each trip to the salon and I'm a student, so clip-ins just make sense. Here are some of the pros and cons of clip-ins...
  • Pros
    • easy to insert
    • cheapest form of hair extensions
    • can be taken in and out at users discression
  • Cons
    • must be applied everyday. Sleeping in them wouldn't be comfortable
    • hard to wash
    • clips can be uncomfortable
    • wefts can be very hard to hide if you have thin hair
 My Luxy Hair Impression: My impression of Luxy is so-so. I'm happy with the extensions that I received, but there are a few things I would change. The over-all quality is okay. I've never had hair extensions before so I have nothing to compare them too, but they shed a lot in the beginning and ends of the wefts are a little frayed (pictures below). The color I ordered isn't dirty blonde in my opinion. It's more like a honey or dark golden/red blonde. They are very warm and my hair naturally has cool tones. Keep the undertones of you hair color in mind. I thought they would be a bit more neutral, but they weren't. When I ordered mine, I knew my hair wasn't going to match them (I had a DIY bleaching experience and my hair turned very ashy when it was corrected). I got my hair done a few weeks after I received them and took a weft in with me. My stylist did a great job matching them, but my hair is still naturally ashy. Also, I only get a partial foil when I get my hair done. This means that the underneath of my hair is darker. If you get a partial foil, the underneath of your hair is left uncolored.

The 160g is WAY too much hair for me, but I would recommend it to everyone. More is better. If you're going to buy it, you might as well buy a few wefts you're not going to use so that you have extras so if one gets ruined, you're not out of luck.

I purchased some hair color to color the lower portion of my hair extensions. I haven't decided if I'm going to color them or get my hair redone and get a full foil. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

The verdict: Would I buy them again? No. I think I would just go to Sally's and pick out some from there. I think the Luxy extensions are a bit expensive and buying from the internet is tricky. Would I recommend them? Yes and no. If your hair is ONE solid color it would be a lot easier to purchase on the internet. Other than that, no. Luxy doesn't have many colors to choose from. I'm happy with what I got, but I don't feel the need to purchase them from Luxy again. Definitely no if you have thin hair in the back of your head like me. It's really hard to hide the wefts.

Plus: If you're going to get clip-ins, factor in the cost of getting them cut. They will need to be cut in order to blend seamlessly into your hair!

    1. No, they didn't. There are a couple of things that can be done to help them blend. One of them is dyeing they hair to match the under portion (which I did and it helped) and getting them cut to blend better (which I haven't done). It's hard to blend extensions with straight hair, and way easier to do with curled hair!

  3. I purchased Luxy hair and couldn't believe the quality of the hair.. It was full of synthetic blend and definitely cheap. knowledge is really power because I couldn't believe thousands of girls are screaming and excited about bad hair.. lol!!!
    Luxy and sally brands are all junk hair..
    When you finally get reall 100percent human hair, You will know.

  4. I ordered my first set of Luxy's on August 24th (Friday..) it is now September 7th and I still have not recieved mine... and the shipping still says it is in the city of origin? (A little unimpressed with this since it said they would be delivered on September 5th, keeping my fingers crossed that they show up anyday now). Aside from this,I have been wearing extensions for the past 10 years - all clip ins. So far to the best of my experience, Hello Gorgeous Hair Extensions are by far the best (I am not even sure why I didnt purchase there again this time but my next set I will be sure to go back). They come in 220grams - which is basically like buying 2 sets - they are 100% human hair - no coating on them and they are BEAUTIFUL. Mind you, they are certainly more expensive -- I think I paid around $250 for the set including shipping & Rush Delivery. A downer to them is that they take anywhere from 2 weeks (with rush delivery added) to a month because they are hand made each set. If you want better quality I suggest these as well as the fact that you can blend any colours you want which makes it MUCH easier to blend. The more I write the more I regret not just buying them over the Luxy's. Thanks for the review :)

    1. Hi Shonna! I'm sorry to hear about the delay in shipping. I would contact their customer service. I'm in the states and it didn't take long to get my package. Are you in Canada? Their distribution center is in the states. I don't know what I would do with 220g of hair! The 160g is way too much for me! I guess I over estimated. Better to have more than not enough, right!? Keep me posted on your experience with Luxy. We'll have to call them out if they don't respond!

Thanks so much for this review!I ordered some cheep Indian Remy hair from a chines place online (haha like 60-80 Bucks!), expecting what I paid for, and they've lasted my rather well for the time. But I was really kind of interested in these Luxy hair extensions, though I was torn between buying online or just going down to Sally's. This basically made my mind up for me! My hair grows really slowly and is a mix of Curly Italian, and Dark black/brown Spanish hair, it seems like the more it grows the shorter it gets! I just wanted something to use while my hair grows longer. It seems though I can only get straight hair from Luxy, which means more frying time, while using my wand to get it to match my curls.
    So anyway Thanks again, I was looking for someone to give a good honest review!(sorry about the long message!:)

  6. I had a terrible experience with these extensions. They are from terrible quality! They shed, they fall out very quickly and after a month it looks like I'm wearing straw on my head instead of hair.
    And it doesn't even look natural, because there isn't enough hair in one weft to make it look like it's your hair and not fake.
    There are allot of plastic strands between the "real" ones and if you start straightening them or curling them they burn. I'm just so pissed right now that I spent 160 dollars on this crappy set. I really don't recommend buying from them, there are other extensions out there that are 1000x better!!

  11. Ordered Luxy extensions on a weekday afternoon and that evening decided to get some locally and emailed Luxy to cancel the order. By the morning I got an email from Patricia stating that unfortunately my order was already being processed and she couldn't cancel my order with the wherehouse. The order would be shipped out soon and I would have to do "return to sender" when they deliver my package and request a signature. Once the package comes back to them they can then issue a refund..so about 2 - 2 1/2 weeks later I'm assuming. I emailed back stating it's odd that they can't communicate with the warehouse? Later that afternoon I got a congrats your hair has been shipped..why would they even go through the trouble? Horrible customer service right off the bat, I would not recommend anyone going through this company on principal alone. Go to Sally's and get Eurolux hair extensions or somewhere with better hair..tons of negative reviews on this hair by the way..
